Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery include many cases, the most important of which are:

Impacted wisdom tooth

The wisdom tooth is the last of the teeth to form, and in some cases the jaw is wide and the wisdom tooth can erupt naturally like the rest of the teeth.

  • But in most cases, there is not enough space for the wisdom tooth and it obstructs the adjacent teeth, which leads to partial or complete eruption of the molar between the jawbone and the gums.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, inflammation and tumors in the mouth, and wisdom teeth can cause permanent damage to the gums, bone and adjacent teeth.
  • The impacted wisdom tooth can also cause the formation of benign or malignant tumors that can destroy the jaw, so the dentist recommends surgically removing the wisdom tooth.
  • It should be noted here that the wisdom tooth is not the only tooth that can be impacted. Impaction may occur in other teeth (such as the upper canines) and impaction can cause the same damage caused by impacted wisdom teeth.

Tooth loss

Dental implants are an option to compensate for tooth loss, and dental implants are an artificial alternative to the roots of the teeth fixed in the jaw by surgery.

Jaw problems

Many problems in the jaw require surgeries, such as:

  • Fractures resulting from accidents.
  • Tumor resection.
  • Cleft lip and hereditary palate abnormalities.
  • Maxillofacial and neck infections.
  • Snoring
